Footsteps in the Flour

My sister Karen sent me some family photos the other day.  It brought a smile and brought back some priceless memories.  I especially like the photo of my dad holding me when I was two months old.  I always thought my dad was the handsomest man alive and this picture proves it – he was, as my husband the Hollywood reporter likes to say about such people, “a movie star who doesn’t make movies.”

Fittingly enough, my mom was a great beauty.  You can see it in the photo of her pregnant (with my sister Karen).  Wherever she went men would fall at her feet.  In her youth, before she met my dad, she lived next door to the Williams brothers, one of whom would go on to become the famous crooner Andy Williams.  The story, as my grandmother told it, was that Grandma Woodruff suspected Andy, a teenager at the time, of peeping into their living room window at night, when my mom did her sewing.  So one night she sprinkled flour all over the patio and the next morning – lo and behold- there were the footsteps in the flour to prove they’d had a nocturnal visitor.  I’m just glad Mom didn’t marry Andy or I would never have been born.  Either that, or you would be listening to my music instead of reading my books.

Speaking of which…I’m happy to announce that ONE LAST DANCE, back by popular demand, will be making its e-book debut on my website later in the week.  Will let you know when it’s on-site.  You’ll be able to download it, along with the short novella, WELCOME TO CARSON SPRINGS, which is the prequel to my Carson Springs trilogy.  I’m excited to see these old friends, the characters many readers came to know and love, brought back into the spotlight, ready for their encore.
