Serendipitous Meetings

I met fellow author Jane Green when we were both speaking at the La Jolla Writers conference last fall.  We bonded while seated together at the signing table, when Jane offered to nip over to the bar and get us gin & tonics.  Nothing like a fellow soldier in the trenches who knows what you need!  Luckily, Jane lives in Connecticutt, not far from NYC, so we’ve met a couple of times since then.   Even more serendipitously, Jane’s lovely husband and mine get along splendidly.

Jane and I are also admirers of each other’s works – something that can’t be said of every published author (We’re all hopeless snobs under our egalitarian skins).   If you haven’t read her works, go to her website and check out her titles. www.janegreen.com  I particularly enjoyed her novel “Second Chances.”  I told her we’re going to have to get drunk on martinis someday and talk ex-husbands.  Just from reading her novels, it’s plain that her ex and mine have a lot in common!

Last night Jane and her husband Ian came for dinner at our place.  In the middle of a major snowstorm!  How’s that for intrepid? It was a lovely evening of wine, conversation, and great food (cooked by moi).  We shared a lot of laughs…and groans, in swapping stories about author tours from hell.   We both agreed that meeting fans is wonderful but wading through all the fouled up travel plans, bad accommodations and nasty road food, is NOT.   She is a true soul sister.

I hope this is the start of many more get-togethers down the line.  In the meantime, I have her next book to look forward to…
