Boys and their cars

Boys and their cars…

My husband is crazy about old cars.  His dream is to someday own a ‘70’s Mercedes Pagoda.  At night, his bedtime reading is old car magazines.  I love to pore over cookbooks; he watches the Barrett-Jackson car auctions on TV.   His interest in cars also extends to travel.  Ours is a marriage in which he plans the road trips and I figure out where we’re going to eat along the way.  He’s the Secretary of Transportation, and my cabinet post is Secretary of Health and Agriculture.

This past weekend Sandy’s family gathered for a memorial dinner in honor of his dad, who passed away earlier in the year.  Sandy’s brother, Geoff, put together a beautiful booklet with photos of his dad at various stages of his life, with various family members.  My favorite photo was one that didn’t make it into the booklet, because his dad isn’t in it: It shows Sandy, age 4, at the wheel of his dad’s ‘54 Oldsmobile.   Proof that we have to be careful what we expose our kids to at an early age for it could become an expensive hobby later on in life.  So far the Mercedes is but a dream, but one of these days…I’m sure I’ll be going for a ride in a vintage convertible with the top down and me wondering, “Did I put on enough sunscreen?”
