As Valentine’s Day approaches, I’m thinking thoughts of romance. I’m happy to report the home fires are still burning as far as my darling husband is concerned. (How can you not love a guy who vacuums & dusts when you’re not there to do it?) Okay, so it took a few tries (who’s counting?) before I found the One, but Sandy and I have been married coming up on fifteen years, so I think I’m safe in saying I finally got it right. He thinks so, too, by the way.
In the book I’m working on now, THE REPLACEMENT WIFE, my main character is a professional matchmaker. I interviewed a real-life matchmaker for research purposes, a woman by the name of Janice Spindel, who claims to have made over 900 successful matches. (Wow, that’s a lot of rice.) It was interesting to hear her stories about what her clients are looking for and what she looks for in pairing them up. Interestingly, she finds women a lot higher maintenance than men. This does not surprise me. Guys are pretty simple in that respect: they see what they want, and they want what they see. We girls have checklists. A guy’s got to have this and that and the other…and, oh, by the way a fat paycheck would be nice, and if he could also father some cute babies while he’s at it. Having made the trip down the aisle more than once, I only had a checklist of DON’Ts when it came to dating, post-divorce. The main thing I was looking for was someone who would love me and be good to me. Fortunately, I found it in Sandy.
How are we going to celebrate Valentine’s Day? At home…far from the madding crowds of NYC’s madding-ly crowded Times Square area, where we live. I’ll cook something nice for supper and we’ll cuddle up.
On an authorly note, my publisher is going to be running a Valentine’s Day contest by which the winner will receive a free Sony e-reader with several of my titles loaded into it. So if you don’t have a cute guy to cuddle up with on V-day, you can cuddle up with one of my books, should you win. I will be providing details on entering in my next blog post. And, hey, if you don’t win, you can always download one of my books from Amazon/Kindle (or some other e-reader provider) or there’s always the old-fashioned method – the bookstore or your local public library.
I just finished your book, Otherwise Engaged. I can't wait to find some of your other titles and have some good reads to look forward to!
I hope you and your husband enjoy your Valentine's Holiday. My youngest son, Brody, has a birthday on the 15th, so we are looking forward to the weekend and following week as well.
Thanking God for your amazing talent,
Shari
